The 32-year-old Shai Maestro is a shining star in the jazz piano sky. Maestro started with classical music as a child and discovered jazz through Oscar Peterson. As a teenager, he once turned down a music scholarship in the United States in order to become a sideman of bassist Avishai Cohen. For almost 10 years now he has been creating enthusiasm with his own trio or quartet. Their sound relies on dreamlike moods as well as intricate, but easily spread structures and is also influenced by the tonal coloring of the music of his native Israel. With his two fellow musicians—the Peruvian bassist Jorge Roeder and the young Israeli drummer Ofri Nehemya—Maestro now also embarks on the path of playful reduction—in the interest of atmosphere, poetry, and the telling of captivating musical stories. Maestro called his latest CD "The Dream Thief." With their hypnotic concerts, the trio, which is currently complemented by trumpeter Philipp Dizack, transformed concert halls in Europe and the USA into rooms full of dreams.
Tickets are CHF 35.10-70.80.
