With his “Symphonie Fantastique,” Hector Berlioz revolutionized music. For the first time, not only sound, but also dramatic action, psychology, and highly pictorial scenes such as a witches' sabbath or the description of a drug rush, came together to form a symphonic whole. It is considered a key work of Romanticism! Sinfonieorchester Basel under the direction of chief conductor Markus Poschner combines Berlioz's soundscape of extremes with the cello concerto by the Pole Witold Lutosławski. Behind the façade of cool elegance, Lutosławski also seethes violently. His concerto, written in 1970, can be read as the individual's struggle for freedom in a totalitarian society. The soloist is the award-winning cellist Anastasia Kobekina, a musician who immediately captivates with her technical brilliance and infectious spontaneity.
