Sinfonieorchester Basel — Vielsaitig

Stadtcasino Basel
19:30

Sinfonieorchester Basel under the direction of Igor Bolton opens their new season with a program entitled “Vielsaitig” (Multi-stringed) featuring works by Reinhold Glière, Johannes Brahms, and Andrea Scartazzini.
During the period of Stalinist terror, the Russian Glière composed a concerto for solo harp and orchestra. He was lucky—the thoroughbred romantic wrote a work in the style of Tchaikovsky and did not cause any political offense. Brahms was also often criticized as a conservative, but his last symphony, the Fourth, opens the door to the future in terms of harmony and rhythm. Rhythm, on the other hand, is at the center of the orchestral work “Salve” by Basel composer Scartazzini—the Sinfonieorchester Basel premiered it a few years ago for the opening of the remodelled Stadtcasino Basel.
Tickets are CHF 35-110 for adults and half-price for students and youths.
