Spanish Fever — Matthieu Saglio Quartet / Marco Mezquida Trio

On his new album "Letter to Milos," Marco Mezquida reunites his trio, with whom he already recorded the two albums "Ravel's Dreams" (2017) and "Talismán" (2019). Together with Aleix Tobias on drums and percussion and Martín Meléndez on cello, they create a playful, colorful sound that runs through all of the compositions. The three return to familiar realms of traditional Iberian music, combine Son Cubano with Brazilian samba, and devote themselves to romanticism, but with borrowings from free jazz, blues, circus music and a lot of groove.
"There is a lot of room for the cultures of the world In Matthieu Saglio's music, and with “Voices” he embraces them all," said a German commentator. When Saglio talks about the human voice, the 46-year-old becomes enthusiastic: "The voice is something very characteristic, even intimate of each of us—and above all something close to our skin." Therefore, it was only natural for him to dedicate his new album to this sonorous reflection of our soul—"Voices." The French-born musician is actually a cellist, and on his instrument, he builds bridges to jazz and flamenco, folk music, and African sounds and rhythms. He also has incorporated Visigothic and Arabic influences into his playing; no wonder, since the creative spirit has lived in Valencia for more than two decades, a melting pot of different cultures for thousands of years.
