The Stimmen (Voices) music festival has become the largest music event on the Upper Rhine, attracting an impressive array of international stars, soloists, and choirs, providing magical moments and musical experiences for young and old. From June 26 to July 20 this year, the festival will play a homage to the power and beauty of the human voice at various special venues in neighboring Germany.
“Lux Perpetua” explores the complex cosmos of a seemingly familiar, yet ever-newly enigmatic and profound fragment—Mozart's unfinished “Requiem.” The introitus spans the arc between eternal rest (requiem aeternam) and eternal light (lux perpetua). The question of the nature of eternity in the face of the infinity of death constitutes the musical polarity of “Lux Perpetua,” composed by Maximilian Guth. A requiem mass from a musical future Mozart never experienced but passionately anticipated is made audible. “Lux Perpetua” uses timbres and scales from various musical traditions to make Mozart's music audible in a new way. It penetrates the surprisingly alien dimension of the “Requiem” and reveals its many facets, from humble insight to profound despair. It connects cultures and religions, explores despair, hope, and consolation, and opens itself to the eternal light.
Tickets are € 45.
