The Stimmen (Voices) music festival has become the largest music event on the Upper Rhine, attracting an impressive array of international stars, soloists, and choirs, providing magical moments and musical experiences for young and old. From June 26 to July 20 this year, the festival will play a homage to the power and beauty of the human voice at various special venues in neighboring Germany.
Wallis Bird, the award-winning Irish singer-songwriter, and SPARK, one of the leading ensembles on the young classical music scene, join forces for a unique, cross-genre concert experience. “Visions of Venus” takes you through a millennium of female sound art—from the Middle Ages to the modern, from classical to avant-garde, jazz, indie rock, and art pop to world music and singer-songwriting. In this musical mosaic, female composers from diverse times, cultures, and genres are celebrated—as muses, warriors, dreamers, and voices of the spirit. Bird, winner of the Meteor Music Award and the German Music Authors' Prize, and SPARK, winner of the ECHO Klassik, present imaginative reinterpretations with dedication and passion. Their joint repertoire ranges from Hildegard von Bingen to Björk, from Francesca Caccini to Kate Bush, from Joni Mitchell to the French composer Germaine Tailleferre.
