Swedish Dreams — Emil Brandqvist Trio / Tingvall Trio

The secret of the Brandqvist Trio lies in the rare gift of having developed a unique sound that is characterized by the delicate sound paintings of namesake Emil Brandqvist on the drums and the sometimes sensitive, sometimes rapidly rolling neo-classicisms of the Finnish pianist Tuomas A. Turunen. The stoic driving force of Max Thornberg's double bass playing gives the trio an unmistakable body. Brandqvist is a drummer, composer, and bandleader who is involved in many different music projects both as a drummer and as a composer. He often draws inspiration for his compositions from Swedish nature.
The Tingvall Trio is always at the top of the jazz charts and is more successful than ever. They are presenting their album "Birds" in Basel. The song "SOS" in particular has a deep, political message. Martin Tingvall, Omar Rodriguez Calvo, and Jürgen Spiegel from the Tingvall Trio are currently on a roll. At the Elbjazz Festival in their adopted home of Hamburg, the Swedish pianist, Cuban double bassist, and German drummer were cheered by a large audience. The three have been playing together in this line-up for 20 years. As a composer, Tingvall has a knack for catchy melodies with a high level of recognition—a quality that is more common in pop than in jazz. Perhaps that explains the success of his trio, which you should definitely experience live.
Tickets are CHF 31-89.90.
