Offbeat was the organizer of Astor Piazzolla's last concert in Switzerland, when the Piazzolla Quinteto performed in Basel in 1988. At the end of the 1990s, offbeat presented Gary Burton's Piazzolla tribute with the original quintet exclusively in Basel. For over 20 years, the Astor Piazzolla Quinteto has continued the legacy of the late tango revolutionary. Piazzolla's very own interpretation of tango with its provocative and innovative sound delighted audiences then and now. At performances all over the world and at festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, the group tries to recreate the mastermind's brilliant compositions. And with success. The Piazzolla Quinteto is the only project authorized by Piazzolla's widow that has access to the old master's vast estate. The international press is talking about the only ensemble that could represent the virtuoso grand master.
