Thaalam Maestro Ilaiyaraaja
Maestro Ilayaraaja is an Indian film composer, conductor, arranger, lyricist, and singer who works in the Indian film industry. Widely regarded as one of the greatest Indian music composers, he is often credited for introducing Western musical sensibilities in the Indian film musical mainstream, predominantly in the South. He has composed over 8,500 songs, besides being the only composer in the world to have composed music for 1,500 feature films in over 9 languages and to have written lyrics for over 1,500 songs besides singing over 1,000 songs himself. Dr. Ilaiyaraaja is a recipient of five National Awards—three for Best Music Direction and two for Best Background Score. In 2010, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honor in India, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2018, the second-highest civilian award by the Government of India.
