“The Art of Solo Piano” — Michel Camilo Latin Piano

Michel Camilo was born in the Dominican Republic. He studied at the National Conservatory for 13 years and attained the degree of Professor of Music. At age 16, he became the youngest member of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic. In 1979 he moved to New York to continue his studies at the Mannes and the Juilliard School of Music. Since his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1985 he has become one of the most important musicians who regularly performs at festivals and concerts in the United States, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South America, and the Caribbean. His work has earned him several Grammys, and Emmy, three Latin Grammy Awards, and numerous other awards. Camilo is considered a highly virtuosic pianist who is devoted not only to Latin jazz but also to jazz traditions. After his performances as a duo with Tomatitio, he now finally comes to the Martinskirche for a magical solo recital.
