The Black Sorrows are an Australian band who continue to tour the world consistently and have truly earned recognition as a dynamic live act and festival favorite. At the Atlantis they will play highlights from their repertoire.
On stage, Joe Camilleri expertly guides his band through an infectious interplay of different intoxicating genres, such as blues, rock, old school R&B, with influences from jazz, country, and brilliantly building pop music. The "Black Sorrows" have a large loyal fan base in Australia and Europe. Their musical skill and energy delight music fans around the world. Camilleri founded the band in 1984 as a loose association of like-minded musicians. From humble beginnings, he has developed the Black Sorrows into one of Australia's most sophisticated ensembles. And when the first radio stations started playing the hit "Mystified", the road to success was finally paved, and numerous award-winning hits, such as the platinum-selling hits "Hold on to Me," "Harley & Rose," and "The Chosen Ones," were made available to a worldwide audience. Camilleri’s talent as a songwriter is highly appreciated by even the biggest names in the music industry, and artists such as Elvis Costello and John Denver have recorded their own covers of his songs. The Black Sorrows have won the Australian music award ARIA as "Best Band," have played on sold-out stages worldwide, and have sold more than 2 million albums. They will embark on a major European tour, which includes one stop in Basel.
Tickets are CHF 25 in advance and CHF 30 at the door.
