“Havin' a Good Time” is the motto from mid-December 2024 to mid-January 2025, when The Gospel People are on the road on their “Believe Tour” to take the audience on a musical journey into the heart of the USA, its Black churches, and their joyful revival experience. The 2-hour program ranges from songs from the traditional “Black Gospel” to gospel inspired by jazz and soul to the current “Contemporary Gospel” with its rock, pop, and rap elements. This evening with a thrilling stage performance promises to give you goosebumps.
The gospel troupe led by artistic director, frontman, and arranger Owen Nixon does not find it difficult to inspire their audiences. In ever-changing constellations—from ensemble scenes to impressive solo performances—and paired with an energetic stage show of almost extatic dance interludes, they bring every venue to the boil. You can just feel the passion with which the artists convey their message. Because for them, gospel is not just music, but “The Good News” and passing on the good news. Own titles and many well-known melodies are seamlessly strung together, culminating in a gripping finale. “The Anthem” and “Revelation” lead into a “Hallelujah,” until “Oh Happy Day” and “We Are the World” are met with rhythmic clapping and rapturous applause. Church music doesn't have to sound solemn! A rocking beat and soul and blues vocals turn it into a show. This spirit and the joyful message of the gospel give courage in difficult times of war and fear of the future.
