Soul, funk, hip-hop, and dance merge into one big party in the new show “Groove” by the breaking collective The Ruggeds from Eindhoven and the Ghetto Funk Collective from Amsterdam at the Burghof's season opening. An evening full of live music, improvisations, and spectacular dance moves, where the soul train has no stopping point. The two top dance teams from the Netherlands demonstrate their skills worldwide, with The Ruggeds recently becoming world champions in breaking. The Ghetto Funk Collective, on the other hand, is an innovative group that pushes the boundaries of funk dance and funk music and has made a name for itself in the global funk scene with its infectious energy. In “Groove,” the eight top dancers and dancing musicians take their audience back 50 years to the time of James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Marvin Gaye—on a journey through the development of funk & soul to hip-hop and house.
