Theater—The Gambler

In this exuberant play with addiction potential by Fyodor M. Dostoevsky, money, gambling addiction, and obsessive love rule in the town of Roulettenburg. Accompanied by the eternal illusion: “Tomorrow, tomorrow, it’ll be over!” The rich aunt brings hope. But while everyone is waiting for news of her death, she turns up alive and well and gambles away the last rouble. “The Gambler” is a frenzied masterpiece of literature. It emerged from a fiendish agreement between Dostoevsky and his publisher: Either he delivered the novel within a few weeks or the rights to all his previous and future novels would be transferred to the publisher. The director Pınar Karabulut is also a master of living on the edge. She examines the classics of world literature for their pop-cultural suitability and confronts them with queerness. This play will be performed in German with English surtitles.
Tickets are CHF 30-65 for adults and CHF 10 for students.
