The Tis Jazz Fest presents the most exciting artists and bands from the current Basel jazz scene. Their diversity is shown year after year on the stage of the legendary Atlantis. If you want to get an idea of the current Basel jazz scene, come to the Tis Jazz Fest, where a total of six acts will play on two festival days.
On Friday, the Tis Jazz Orchestra opens with an exceptional musician—the South Korean jazz singer Song Yi Jeon, who is currently gaining international attention as a protégé of Dianne Reeves. Conductor Niko Seibold is writing an individually composed and arranged program for her.
The second act is Divr, a post-jazz piano trio with a pop sensibility. Their sampling-inspired improvisations and electro-acoustic soundscapes have a magical pull. The debut album “Is This Water” was post-produced by Dan Nicholls and released in 2024.
The third act on this evening is the Sara El Hachimi Quintet, who will present compositions by saxophonist El Hachimi. The music can be described as both jazz-oriented and influenced by singer-songwriter elements and is characterized by a pronounced willingness to experiment..
On Saturday, the evening will begin with Thomas Moeckel's Quadriga—The Emergency Blues & That 's (not yet at) All! They will be celebrating the 75th birthday of a Basel jazz legend on stage at the Atlantis: Mockel is reviving the fusion jazz of the 70s with Quadriga.
The second act of the evening is Iannis Obiols with “Para Mis Friends.” Obiols presents his new album, which is a tribute to all the people who have enriched his life, especially in a fun and good way. This music is a fusion of the influences on the young pianist from Catalonia, presented in a traditional acoustic context.
The final act on this evening will be the Perceptions Trio. With their unique line-up of saxophone, guitar, and drums, they are breaking new ground in music. On their current album, “The Wicked Crew,” the boundaries of contemporary jazz are blurred—acoustic and electronic sound worlds merge into a captivating whole, with complex harmonies intertwined with dynamic rhythms.
Tickets for Friday night are CHF 25 in advance and CHF 30 at the door. Tickets for Saturday night are CHF 25 in advance and CHF 45 at the door. Students receive a CHF 5 discount on both nights.
