To the Waters and the Wild — Celebrating St. Patrick’s Week

GGG Stadtbibliothek Basel West
Tuesday, 14 March
19:30-21:00

The Basel Irish Club proudly presents a broad range of content and styles from the mysticism of Yeats through the unique insights of Brendan Behan and the comic genius Brian O’Nolan in the guise of Flann O’Brien as well as a selection of brilliant women poets. The prresentations, each of which will be preceded by a synopsis of the author and the context of the works, include:

The beautifully poignant poems “The Second Coming” and “The Stolen Child” by W.B. Yeats
“A jar with Brendan Behan”—insights into Dublin history, life and culture
Excerpts from “The Brother,” a hilarious series of conversations (held in the snug of a Dublin pub, of course!) by Flann O’Brien (aka Myles na gCopaleen)
Pillars of the House—Irish women’s poetry both past and present that explores themes related to gender, language, emigration, and the environment, with readings from 19th/20th century poets Katherine Tyne and Eva Gorebooth as well as contemporary poets Eavan Boland and Mary O’Malley.

The readings will be interspersed with Irish music and followed by an apéro.
Entrance is free.
