Yumi Ito creates worlds far from all borders with her voice. The Polish-Japanese-born Swiss is considered one of the most outstanding representatives of vocal improvisation and moves effortlessly between genres and her activities as a singer, pianist, composer, and improviser. Ito's own music is correspondingly diverse, a veritable ocean of art pop, jazz, and neoclassic. Her goal is the creation of musical worlds in the spirit of limitlessness. "Ysla" is the name of Ito's new album (released April 14, 2023), on which she and her band maneuver virtuously through the floods of sounds, grooves, and improvisations. A unique vocal improvisation serves as a compass. Meanwhile, the work revolves around loneliness and separation, the end of the world, and rebirth. It marks a new high point in her opus.
Colin Vallon Trio from Vaud is world class: They do without spectacular solos. They furnish rooms with their sound, create landscapes, illustrate feelings. Fine nuances and changes in dynamics, occasionally also noisy sprinklings and states of suspension characterize the delicate pieces. The fact that one of them is called "Telepathy" is fitting—anyone who makes music so closely intertwined needs telepathic powers...!
