Tom Petty's songs describe the feeling of freedom, looseness, and carefreeness—his music seems timeless. “That's it man!” Toby and Andy experienced this feeling when they were traveling by rental car in California in 2011. Songs such as “Free Fallin’,” “Learning to Fly,” “Running Down a Dream,” and “I Won`t Back Down” could be heard daily on the radio stations and provided the perfect soundtrack. When Tom Petty and his Heartbreakers came to Europe the following year, Toby and Andy traveled to Mannheim for the last show of the European tour—a unique experience!
The love for Tom Petty's songs grew after the concert and so it was clear that they wanted to take the next opportunity to see Tom live. In 2017, the time had come: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers played a concert in London's Hyde Park, and Toby, Andy, and Daria were in the audience. The idea of forming a tribute band subsequently became concrete. After the unexpected death of Tom Petty in the same year, it became clear that now was the right time. The right musicians were quickly found to fill the band in the best possible way. With Luke on drums and Chris on bass, an already well-rehearsed rhythm section was added. Daria was joined by Isa in the vocal and percussion section. As the final piece of the puzzle, Andrew plays his Hammond in this band. In December 2018, “ECHO—A Tribute to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers” was officially born.
