Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra — New Year’s Concert

Stadtcasino Basel
Saturday, 13 January
19:30

The Wiener Opernball Orchester was founded in 1982 as a symphonic orchestra to cultivate Viennese classical music and ball music from the 18th century to the present. The orchestra has taken part in the Vienna Opera Ball every year since 1983. This major event, with over 5,000 guests, is watched by a TV audience of 2.5 million. Andreas Spörri has been conducting the orchestra since 2003, and from 2010-2020 he was conductor of the “Ball of Balls” at the Vienna State Opera. The orchestra now performs in 36 countries and in almost all European cities and has been playing annually in Switzerland since 2003. In addition to the musical participation in ball events, a lively concert activity also began, which resulted in an expansion of the repertoire. Compositions by the Strauss dynasty and their contemporaries, but also masterpieces by Franz Lehár and Emmerich Kálmán as well as almost all common operetta melodies found their way into the concert programs. The Viennese classics and other great composers of symphonic works can also be found regularly in the programs. Spörri and the Wiener Opernball Orchester, together with singers, dancers, and an entertaining presenter, are now bringing the Vienna Opera Ball flair musically to Basel for the first time. The concert program with exquisite works by the Strauss dynasty and from Franz von Suppé to Franz Lehár embodies a cheerful and lively attitude to life.
Tickets are CHF 56.50-121.90 for adults.
