The VOLTA Basel art fair fosters galleries in staging ambitious solo and group presentations, refining the experience to its essential elements—the artists and their work. This focus on compelling visual statements by up-and-coming and established artists cultivates a vibrant and approachable environment of discovery for the engaged collector.
This international art fair will once again offer exclusive insights into current developments on the art market. Unlike elitist, traditional art fairs, VOLTA has been focusing specifically on new trends in art since 2005. Under the motto "Discover. Connect. Collect."
The art market has long been focused on established, male artists. Female artists and young, emerging artists have had few opportunities to show their own works publicly. This is different at VOLTA Basel, which pays special attention to emerging, female artists. Particularly exciting—many of the artists come from hitherto less represented regions of the world, such as Japan, South Korea, Morocco, or Ukraine. For example, Ukraine-born Alyona Volkova presents at VOLTA Basel a series of works that explore our presence, existence, and reality with ontological questions. The juxtaposition of contrasting elements of light and form creates a state of focus and inward transition. She will also be showing a work from her series "The Art of Doing Nothing," which explores the essence of pure joy.
For the 2023 Basel edition, VOLTA has moved to a new location—Klybeck 610, an architectural jewel designed by architects Suter + Suter in 1967. It is based in the Klybeck district and now places VOLTA in the heart of the city’s international art market and a short 15 -minute walk from Art Basel. Free shuttles will be provided from Art Basel.
On Monday, June 12, there will be a free public vernissage from 14:00-20:00. Opening hours will be 11:00-20:00 on Tuesday to Saturday and 11:00-17:00 on Sunday.
Regular-priced tickets are CHF 20; reduced-price tickets for students, seniors, and the disabled are CHF 10; kids under age 16 with accompanying adult are free. Art Basel and photobasel VIPs gain free entry to VOLTA. General admission ticket holders for these fairs are offered a discounted admission.
