This year’s 19th edition of VOLTA in Basel is the inaugural edition under Artistic Director Lee Cavaliere. As an accomplished art professional and expert in contemporary art, he brings a clear vision for the future paired with a strong curatorial focus and desire to attract more “young and potentially dangerous” galleries.
In 2024, visitors will experience the most global event to date, featuring 45 renowned galleries from 24 countries—including galleries from the capitals of the art market such as New York, London, Paris, and Basel and from emerging markets such as South Korea, Mexico, Nigeria, and Lebanon. The Artstübli Gallery and Galerie Katapult from Basel, as well as the Lechbinska Gallery from Zürich present an incredible wealth of exciting art and thus make an important contribution to strengthening the Swiss art market. VOLTA Basel continues to shine a spotlight on new artistic narratives; the “Firsts” section of the fair is dedicated to galleries debuting in Basel and gives access to the art market capitals from new regions.
VOLTA offers art enthusiasts and collectors an opportunity to discover and connect with international artists and their stories and collect art that boldly resonates with the changing world that we live in. To discover the art and emerging artist stories that will shape the future of the contemporary market, or to learn about the behind-the-scenes experience of the curatorial process for VOLTA Basel, you can book an English-language tour with a guide or with the artistic director, respectively.
VOLTA will be staged at its boutique venue Klybeck 610 in the trendy Klybeck district, a short 15-minute walk from Art Basel. Free shuttles will be provided from Art Basel.
On Monday, June 12, there will be a free public vernissage from 14:00-20:00. Opening hours will be 11:00-20:00 on Tuesday to Saturday and 11:00-17:00 on Sunday.
Tickets can be purchased on site or online. Regular-priced day-tickets are CHF 22, fair-passes are CHF 42, and fair-passes with Monday-preview are CHF 47. Evening passes (after 17:00 on Friday) are also available for CHF 18, as are English-language tours of Volta with a guide (CHF 15), or with the artistic director (CHF 25). Reduced-price tickets at the box office are CHF 22 for students, seniors, and disabled; CHF 12.50 for holders of the Basel Card; and free for kids under age 16 with accompanying adult.
