VOLTA Kammermusikfest — Nachtwache (Night Watch)

All are warmly invited to the VOLTA Kammermusikfest, an international chamber music festival taking place this November in the Voltahalle, Basel! Full of exceptional young artists, this year’s festival will take the audience on an eclectic musical journey. These concerts will not take place in a typical concert hall, but in the atmospheric and modern space of Voltahalle. Sit close to the musicians and be a part of their music making in four inspiring evenings of chamber music. At the heart of VOLTA Kammermusikfest is group of friends who love playing chamber music together and look forward to sharing this with as many people as possible.
Following the light and joy of the opening night of Volta Kammermusikfest, “Nachtwache” delves into darker colors and sonorities. Westhoff’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor opens the evening, followed with music by composers Scelsi and Finnis who challenge the norms of tonality and pitch. At the center of the concert is Schoenberg’s “Verklärte Nacht,” which tells the story of two lovers on a moonlit walk. The sextet pushes late-Romanticism to the extreme, Schoenberg on the brink of a new era of musical history.
Tickets are CHF 30 for adults, CHF 10 for students, and free for children under age 12.
