VOLTA Kammermusikfest – Purcell and Friends
All are warmly invited to VOLTA Kammermusikfest, an international chamber music festival taking place this October for the first time in Voltahalle, Basel! Featuring exceptional young artists, this year’s festival will take the audience on an eclectic musical journey. These concerts will not take place in a typical concert hall, but in the atmospheric and modern space of Voltahalle. Sit close to the musicians and be a part of their music-making in two inspiring evenings of chamber music. At the heart of VOLTA Kammermusikfest is a group of friends who love playing chamber music together and look forward to sharing this with as many people as possible.
The second evening of this festival will bring a more intimate concert with different formations of musicians forming a kaleidoscopic program. The concert will be full of contrast, beginning with the warm romanticism of Richard Strauss’ “Capriccio,” before Thomas Demenga’s virtuosic cello duo interrupts with a contemporary sound world. Britten’s energetic “Three Divertimenti” is followed by the baroque music of Purcell, whose influence you will hear in the finale of the concert—Olli Mustonen’s “Nonetto” brings together all nine musicians of the program in a pulsating, rhythmic, and exuberant masterpiece.
Tickets are CHF 20 for adults, CHF 10 for students, and free for children up to age 12.
