Walter Levin Days
Every year, the Scherzo Commodo Foundation supports a project that is associated with the great personality Walter Levin. This year, Ludwig van Beethoven's Quartet op.130 is the theme of a week full of rehearsals and accompanying lectures and analyses. The last movement of the 6-movement work will not be the “Grosse Fuge” op. 133, but the post-composed “Allegro.”
Beethoven's late quartets were among the most important works that the LaSalle Quartet, whose leader Walter Levin was, worked on. Performing op. 130 with a quartet is a big challenge. Trying to do this with a “choral” quartet is a risk that the musicians are happy to take on. Over the years they have already tried their hand at Beethoven's op. 131, Schönberg II, and Schubert in G major op. 161.
There will be a collection to benefit the scholarship fund for lecturers at the Basel University of Music, Classical.
