The Guild of Fine Food is a British organization that is passionate about artisan food and drink. Since 1988, it has supported small and independent producers and brought exceptional products into the limelight. With the annual World Cheese Awards, the Guild organizes one of the world’s most prestigious cheese competitions. Thousands of varieties from all over the world are brought together here to be assessed by experts and cheese lovers—a real highlight for the industry, for cheese fans and for gourmets worldwide. This year, the World Cheese Awards will be held in Switzerland for the first time, temporarily turning the Swiss capital Bern into the “Capital of Cheese.”
There will be an exciting competition to crown the world’s best cheeses, which are tasted blind by an international jury of around 250 people. The jury works in teams of two or three at their table and decides for each product whether it is worthy of an award (Bronze, Silver, Gold, or even Super Gold). The Super Gold winners are then sent to a second round of judging by a Super Jury of 14 internationally recognized and respected experts. Each jury member chooses their personal favorite, which they send into the final, where they are tasted again by the Super Jury in front of a live audience and awarded between 1 and 7 points. The cheese with the highest score is named the World Champion Cheese.
There will also be a Swiss Fine Food Market on a 2000m2-area over the course of the three days where you can taste and buy a variety of cheese, wines, and other Swiss delicacies. The market is open from 10:00-21:00 on Thursday and Friday, and from 09:00-13:00 on Saturday.
The festival will be accompanied by a varied folkloric program filled with fun and games, a cow-milking competition, and a bouncy castle for the little ones. Refreshments after the "work" will also be provided at the food stands or at the restaurant in the neue Festhalle.
Order your tickets online for CHF 10 for adults and free for kids up to age 16. Your ticket for the World Cheese Awards is also valid for Bern’s beer festival, the Bärner Bier Rundi, which takes place on November 14 and 15 from 17:00-23:30 in the Bernexpo exhibition halls.
