Youn Sun Nah is a South Korean jazz singer and composer. She grew up as the daughter of a conductor and a classical singer. At age 23, she made her singing debut in a concert with the Korean Symphony Orchestra. This was followed by numerous performances in Korean musicals at the national level, for which she received several awards. Yet she did not find the musical world fulfilling in the long run. So, in 1995, she decided to go to Paris to study jazz and French chanson and quickly demonstrated her great talent for jazz with her own international quintet in Parisian clubs.
Between 2001 and 2007, Nah recorded five albums. She toured France, Europe, and throughout Asia and received an award for "Best Artist" in the "Crossover" category in Korea in 2004. That same year, her album "So I am..." was enthusiastically received by both the French public and the press. Since then, she has been celebrated in her second home, France, as one of the most remarkable singers of her generation. With her 2007 album "Memory Lane," co-produced by renowned Danish pianist Niels Lan Doky and Korean bassist Kim Jeong Ryul, she cemented her position as one of the leading jazz performers on the Asian music scene, both artistically and commercially. She also received recognition from the American media. An invitation to the "Jazz at Lincoln Center" concert series, directed by Wynton Marsalis, secured her worldwide attention.
Since 2007, Youn Sun Nah has performed as a duo with guitarist Ulf Wakenius. In 2011, accordionist Vicent Peirani and double bassist Simon Tailleu joined her. In duo and quartet, between Paris and Seoul, she plays at festivals such as Montreal, Marciac, Monterey, Java, and Montreux. Her voice and personality have influenced and touched hearts around the world.
Tickets are CHF 41.20-90.90.
