For the second time, there will be a Young Festival Stage at the Sudhaus Basel at the Jazz Festival. Aline Meyer is once again curating this promising evening, selecting two bands for this club night.
The saxophonist and musician Tapiwa Svosve works in multidisciplinary practices, combining sound with theater, painting, and historical practice. The sound of free jazz, extreme avant-gardism, and noise music give rise to exciting ideas about silence, negative spaces, and the negotiation of body and instrument.
Bérénice Awa (*1998) is a Swiss-Senegalese percussionist and artist who works primarily in the world of collective improvised music. She studied jazz percussion at the Jazzcampus Basel, where she completed her bachelor's degree in summer 2024. As part of this, she founded her first project as a band leader, "On est ensemble". In September 2024, they performed for the first time at the bird's eye jazz club in Basel. With a deliberately assembled band, they create a unique atmosphere in which musical diversity and mutual appreciation are the focus. Different backgrounds and personal connections shape the music played and make each piece an expression of collective experiences and creativity. The resulting music not only reflects the passion for creating together, but also deepens the interpersonal connection that makes music possible.
