Zirka Zirkus — Arne Mannott “Thinking Circus” (Film)

Station Circus once again invites you to discover the world of contemporary circus arts in Basel through a program called Zirka Zirkus. The programs present experiments that blur the lines between circus, performance, theater, dance, music, and visual arts as well as light and media design in the circus tent at Dreispitz (Station Circus).
What exactly characterizes circus art, what significance does it have and what could an attempt to define circus art look like? In the documentary film entitled “Thinking Circus,” various European circus artists give their answers to these questions. Not only do different approaches to this art form become clear, but above all, shared basic ideas about the circus are also revealed. Solidarity, the sharing and passing on of knowledge and the value of community in the circus are being given a new appreciation.
The film is shown on the tram before and after each circus performance and admission is free. It starts 45 minutes before the start of each performance and lasts 40 minutes. The film is in English and German and can also be viewed in parts.
