Springtime in Basel is also Jazz Festival Basel time! This year’s edition will be a diverse, complex, and stylistically open musical firework consisting of jazz, funk, soul, and global music, with many female stars of jazz, in and around Basel. The Basel Jazz Festival is also breaking new ground, rejuvenating its program and staff, a breath of fresh air in many areas!

Thematic focuses this year are “Great Voices,” “Pianists in Jazz,” “Cuban Music,” “Mali & South Africa,” “Classical & Jazz,” and “Oriental Music.” Large orchestral projects in collaboration with the Jazzcampus and with Basel Sinfonietta are intended to delight the audience as Swiss premieres, but new band projects from the current Basel jazz scene will also be appropriately presented at the Jazzcampus, at the Kaserne Basel, and at the Sudhaus. For the first time there is a family concert (“Hans im Glück”) to enjoy, and also for the first time, a Young-Festival-Stage in the Sudhaus Basel. In Liestal, the Jazz Festival will be celebrating the live premiere in the new Elefantehuus with a great “Oriental Night.”

From April 15 to May 16, Jazz Festival Basel will present a varied program with many highlights, premieres, and over a dozen award-winning stars in jazz like the 2-time Grammy winner Samara Joy, the seven-time Grammy winner Christian McBride, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Avishai Cohen, Michel Camilo, Hamilton de Holanda, and the Mali legend Vieux Farka Touré. All in all, a varied program with many highlights, premieres, and stars! Basel will once again become the jazz metropolis of Switzerland. Be among the expected 8000+ jazz fans and concert goers that will embark on a musical journey around the world.
