Significant Tram Disruptions Between Claraplatz and Messeplatz
Next week, there will be significant tram disruptions due to construction on Clarastrasse, between Claraplatz and Messeplatz. Starting Monday, August 25, the BVB and the Department of Construction and Transport will be renewing tram tracks at Claraplatz, which will interfere with the running of several lines. To keep the disruption to tram service as short as possible, the BVB will also be working on some nights. At the same time, the “Messeplatz” tram stop by the exhibition hall will be redesigned to allow step-free boarding and alighting for people with mobility impairments. Due to these track renovations, no trams will run through Clarastrasse from Monday, August 25 to Friday, September 5, 2025.
As a result of the urgently needed renovations, several lines will be rerouted or discontinued for those days:
- The Clarastrasse tram stop will not be served, and there will be no tram service on Clarastrasse between Claraplatz and Messeplatz.
- Tram line 1 will run from Bahnhof St. Johann to Bahnhof SBB and from there via Wettsteinplatz, Messeplatz, and Dreirosenbrücke to Kleinhüningen and back.
- Tram line 6 will be diverted via Wettsteinplatz.
- Tram line 14 will not operate during this time; a tram replacement with buses will run between Aeschenplatz and Pratteln Schlossstrasse.
- Tram line 15 will be extended to Badischer Bahnhof, where it will turn around and return via Wettsteinbrücke back to Bankverein and on to Bruderholz.
- Tram line 21 will operate all day; it will run from Eglisee via Messeplatz and Dreirosenbrücke to St. Johann station and then continue as line 1 to SBB train station.
Note that tram lines 8 and 17 will not be affected by the work. Visit https://www.bvb.ch for more a detailed map of the diversions.
