Photo Contest — Telephone Booths
As part of their upcoming exhibition “Out of Use—Everyday Life in Transition,” the Historisches Museum Basel has been returning the iconic telephone booths to Barfüsserplatz that were a fixture and popular meeting point until their retirement in 2019. With the rise of mobile phones, telephone booths in many places have been falling out of use and are slowly disappearing from the cityscapes. Now they are returning to Barfüsserplatz until August.

In conjunction with the exhibit, the museum is also holding a contest of photos depicting telephone booths from around the world. So whether it’s a photo of a telephone booth in your neighborhood, in a Swiss mountain village, or in an exotic locale you visited on your vacations—send it to the museum by March 31 via their website, https://www.hmb.ch/aktuell/news/wettbewerb-telefonkabinen/ (the site is in German only) for a chance to win one of five attractive prizes.
