Re-Opening of The Bird’s Eye Jazz Club

After six months of closure, the bird’s eye jazz club will finally be resuming operations on March 10, under new management. If you enjoy listening to live jazz over a drink, you should check out this quaint club located at Kohlenberg, just up from Barfüsserplatz. The club is open Tuesday to Saturday (Wednesday to Saturday in June, July, and August) from 20:00 until about 23:00. They usually have two concert sets per evening starting at 20:30 and approximately 21:45.

Their program features a variety of national and international jazz bands. Generally, young or lesser-known musicians take to the stage on Tuesday and Wednesday evening; Thursdays are sometimes reserved for more unusual or atypical styles; and Fridays and Saturdays evenings host mainly established bands and musicians who are active on the international scene.

Admission costs CHF 14 for the entire evening on Tuesday to Thursday, and CHF 12 per set on Friday and Saturday. Reduced prices (CHF 8 per evening/set) are available for those with a member card, people under age 25, holders of KulturLegi und BaselCard, and others; check their website for details. Tickets can be reserved through their website, by email (office@birdseye.ch), or by phone at 061-263-3341; note that reservations are only valid once you receive a confirmation and that reserved seats must be taken 20 minutes before the concert starts or they risk being released. You can also get tickets on the spot if the set is not sold out.

Apart from a two-week break in summer, they offer a terrific line-up of concerts all year. Check out their website for a list of concert dates or put yourself on their email mailing list to receive their monthly programs.
