The BVB, IWB, and Basel’s construction and transportation department (BVD) has been renovating Hardstrasse in the Gellert neighborhood since January of this year. During the main phase of this project, which has just started, they are replacing the aging tram tracks, energy, and water pipes; connecting Hardstrasse to the municipal district heating network; creating more space for pedestrians and cyclists; planting additional trees; and increasing road safety. 

All of these improvements mean that for a total of 12 weeks—until June 25—tram 14 service is being replaced by buses between Aeschenplatz in Basel and the Schlossstrasse stop in Pratteln. From Aeschenplatz, the replacement buses will use the existing stops of bus line 37 on Engelgasse to Karl Barth-Platz. From there, the replacement bus follows roughly along the same route as the tram line 14 to Pratteln. For more information on the route and stops, see https://www.bvb.ch/wp-content/bvb/dokumente/baustelleninformationen/2023/20230403_Uebersicht_Tramersatz_L14.pdf.

The Hardstrasse section affected by track construction will be also be closed to cars, motorbikes, and bicycles during the work. Side streets off of Hardstrasse will temporarily become dead ends.
