Are you an enthusiastic amateur singer? How would you like participating in the Basel Proms Chorus that will be a part of the Basel Proms concert planned for November 2, 2024, in the Stadtcasino? Inspired by the legendary music festival at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the second edition of “A Basel Night at the Proms”—which took place for the first time in 2022 as the first of its kind in Switzerland—will a rousing celebratory gala evening bringing together Swiss, U.K., and international artists in a grand celebration of music, arts, and culture. The event is performed by the Basel Proms Orchestra and Basel Proms Chorus and features Basel-based as well as international soloists. The Basel Proms Orchestra is made up of members of the Basel Festival Orchestra as well as other Basel based musicians with backgrounds from all over the world.

The heart and soul of the Proms concerts, however, will be the Basel Proms Chorus that is made up of the people of Basel and its neighboring countries, France and Germany, and cities including Zürich, and beyond. It will feature voices ranging widely in age and experience coming together to create a diverse and exciting choir. For this chorus, they are looking for about 130 amateur singers of all ages and nationalities, both with and without much choral singing experience—so if you’ve always dreamt of performing with fellow music enthusiasts in front of an excited audience, this is your chance! The program will include a wide variety of works performed in English, Italian, Latin, German, and a bit of Swiss German.

Rehearsals will begin with a full-day workshop on April 27 and continue until the concert on November 2, with most rehearsals taking place in September and October. The rehearsal schedule has already been published, so you can get a feeling for the level of commitment involved.

If you are interested in participating in the chorus, go to their website at, where you will find links to more information on the program for the concert and the rehearsal schedule as well as the registration site.
