Skate on a Synthetic Ice Rink by the Rhein

Until December 23, all are invited to skate on an artificial ice rink at the Du Pont terrace, right next to the Mittlere Brücke (Kleinbasel side). The new “Glice” artificial ice rink brings the feeling of ice skating right into the heart of the city—completely without electricity, water, or refrigeration. What looks like magic is clever Swiss technology: The surface consists of special Glice panels that quickly and perfectly mimic real ice. You glide smoothly, can spin pirouettes, or simply skate leisurely laps—whether it’s sunny or above freezing. The best part? This ice rink needs no energy for cooling, not a single drop of water—and for every Glice panel used, a tree is planted. So every turn on the ice becomes a small contribution to our planet.

The rink is open from Monday to Friday from 15:00-20:00 and on weekends from 13:00-20:00. Cost is CHF 8 for adults and CHF 5 for children for a 45-minute skate, which includes skate rentals. Families with two adults and two kids pay CHF 22 (including skate rental), or chose the “Skate & Sip” option for CHF 13, which includes skates and a free drink. So why not enjoy a romantic wintery experience with your loved ones by the Rhein?
