The Sinfonieorchester Basel’s New Season Starts Soon!

For the Sinfonieorchester Basel, this season’s theme is “Familienbande” (family ties)—for example, when sibling pairs like the Jussen brothers from the Netherlands, the Labèque sisters from France, the Lithuanian conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla and her pianist sister Onutė Gražinytė, as well as the sibling trio Moreau from Paris become part of the orchestra’s “family ties.” Under the direction of Principal Conductor Ivor Bolton, the orchestra is also looking forward to collaborating with other prominent artists, including “Composer in Residence” Unsuk Chin and “Artist in Residence” Marie-Ange Nguci.

In addition to their main program, which will consist of 12 major concerts at the Stadtcasino Basel throughout the year, the Sinfonieorchester will also be presenting several other concert series, including family concerts that introduce the younger audience to the joys of classical music, two free outdoor picnic concerts in the courtyard of the Museum der Kulturen on Sunday mornings, multiple Promenade concerts at the Gare du Nord, and numerous other projects. Included in the nearly 80 concerts planned this season will also be two concerts in the wildly popular “Concert & Cinema” series for which the orchestra will perform live to film-screenings of “Three Nuts for Cinderella,” and “Skyfall.”
