A visit to this park in the southern Black Forest is a wonderful and educational experience for the whole family. The falconry located on a small elevated area near the park entrance offers a gorgeous view of the surrounding countryside; it seats 600 people who can watch a fascinating bird-of-prey flight show with eagles, falcons, and owls. There are two shows daily, at 11:00 and 15:00, each lasting more than 40 minutes, during which you learn everything about these birds, their protection from the dangers they face, and their role in the balance of nature.

Following the birds-of-prey show, you may want to participate in feeding the Barbary Macaques living in the park. You will receive free food to give to them so that you can experience close contact with these playful creatures in their enclosure at 12:00 and at 16:00.

The park also features a 500m² birdhouse; the exhibition discusses such subjects as bird identification; local breeding birds; birds in orchards, grassland, woodland copses, hedges and edges of woods, deciduous woods, alluvial forests, and coniferous forests; migratory birds, roaming birds, and winter guests, birds of prey; cliff birds and birds near flowing water, ponds, and lakes; as well as stalking birds, water fowl, shore birds, marsh birds, common terns, and seagulls. A day-trip to the park would not be complete without a visit to the kangaroo enclosure; the parakeet free-flight aviary, where you can observe these colorful flying acrobats in free flight; or the children’s play area. The park is open from March to November daily from 10:00-17:00, longer on Sundays and holidays.

Vogelpark Steinen is located at Hofener Strasse 60 in 9=79585 Steinen; it can be reached by car from Basel in 30 minutes. You can also take the train, get off at the Steinen train station, walk 50m to the Steinen town hall, and take bus 7305 to the stop called Vogelpark Steinen (not on Sundays).

Entrance costs € 19 for adults, € 10 for kids ages 4-11, and free for kids under age 4.
