The Energie Sparbonus (energy savings bonus) in Basel-Stadt is an annual payment to all Basel residents who were registered in the city on December 15 of the previous year. It is financed by the electricity incentive tax that is intended to motivate the Basel population to save electricity. Normally paid out in June to about 140’000 households, this year’s bonus is CHF 60 per person for private individuals. In 2025, there was a payment error that resulted in about 9,000 households receiving the bonus twice. If your household is one of them, you will be receiving a letter explaining the mistake and giving you two options: 1) You can voluntarily repay the second bonus using the enclosed QR bill, or 2) you opt to do nothing, which will result in a skipped payment next year.
