For years, the organization Gsünder Basel (Healthier Basel), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting good health for people in the Basel area, has offered a variety of free exercise classes throughout the summer months in the beautiful parks of the Basel region under the motto “Aktive! im Sommer.” After successful runs in previous years, they are again continuing this program throughout the colder months in two parks.

In Basel, “Aktiv! im Winter” gymnastics classes in Schützenmattpark will run throughout the winter months from now until May 4, 2027. Like the summer sessions, “Aktiv! im Winter” is free of charge and does not require registration—simply come to the park and join in the exercise to enhance your strength, stamina, and coordination, while being surrounded by beautiful autumn colors in the park, enjoying the unique training atmosphere of exercising outdoors in winter, and experiencing the awakening of spring. Sessions will be held Tuesday evenings from 18:30-19:30 (no classes on December 22 and 29, as well as on February 16).

In Riehen, similar sessions under the motto “Fit im Park” are being held at Wenkenpark, next to the “Ross” (the large horse statue off Bettingerstrasse, on the other side of the road from the park entrance to the Villa Wenkenhof). These sessions also take place Tuesdays from 18:30-19:30, running from now until June 8, 2027 (no classes on December 22 and 29, as well as on February 16).
