Basel Has as New Interactive Map of its Playgrounds

There are 69 public playgrounds in Basel-Stadt—from small neighborhood playgrounds to large playgrounds in parks. They offer different features in terms of playground equipment suitable for kids of different ages, availability of sports fields and courts, water play areas, and more. The Stadtgärtnerei—the City Gardens Department, which is responsible for maintaining the facilities—now provides a new online tool with information about the location of each playground in Basel as well as their features.

With just a few clicks on the interactive map, parents can filter for playgrounds with equipment for different “Zielgruppen” (age groups including toddlers, kindergarteners, school kids, and even teens); type of “Ausstattung,”—that is, the types of playground equipment they have—that is, whether they allow for ball games, movement, imagination, dexterity, sand, swings, and water; as well as their “Zugänglichkeit” (barrier-free accessibility). When you zoom in on a park on the map, a little yellow eye icon appears that allows you to get a 360-degree view of the playgrounds using panoramic images and photos, so you can evalute whether it suits your needs before heading out.
