Basel’s Indoor Swimming Pool, the Rialto, Just Reopened!
After being closed for renovations for about two years, Basel’s indoor swimming pool, the Rialto pool on Birsigstrasse 45, re-opens to the public on September 1. The building, which also includes apartments and offices as well as seminar rooms and a restaurant on the upper floors, had originally opened in 1934; the swimming pool had last been renovated in the 1970s.
Over the past two years, the swimming pool and its infrastructure were modernized and adapted to the needs of today’s users. Thus, the changing rooms and showers are now barrier free, the hall with the pool has received much better lighting, and a second teaching pool with a height-adjustable floor has been added. Additionally, the included sauna area has been expanded. As a result of the renovations, both the pool and the sauna are now accessible for people with disabilities.
Overall, the pool offers a 25-m pool; two teaching pools, one of which is open to the public; a sauna area with three different saunas; and a fitness area with several machines.
For this indoor swimming season, which will last until June 29, 2025, the pool will be open Monday from 8:00-16:30, Tuesday to Friday from 8:00-21:30, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00-18:00.
Individual tickets are CHF 7.50 for adults, CHF 4.50 for students up to age 25, CHF 3.00 for kids ages 6-16, and CHF 1.50 for holders of the colourkey. Ten-entrance tickets at discounted prices, as well as 1-, 3-, or 6-month subscriptions and season passes are also available.
