Blues Festival Basel
Volkshaus Basel
December 17-21
The Blues Festival Basel will be taking place in December for the first time ever! After being cancelled in 2020 and 2021, the Blues Festival Basel will once again be rockin’ the hall at the Volkshaus in Basel—the perfect venue for this style of music with round-table seating in the front section, regular seating in the middle, and a standing area by the bar where drinks can be enjoyed throughout the concerts. For 5 days, the festival will feature international stars from the world of blues, as well as talents from the local blues scene. With the exception of the Promo Blues Night on Monday, each evening concert will be a double-header.
This year’s festival opens on Saturday evening with local heroes and winners of the 2019 Promo Blues Night, Chicago Dave Mo’Blues, who will warm up the stage for the Climax Blues Band, one of the hottest acts in the world in the 70s. Sunday morning will start with the All-Star Blues Brunch, the legendary jam session that is a favorite among die-hard blues fans. Sunday evening will host another double-header concert, starting with one of the hottest British singer-songwriters, Elles Bailey, and followed by British rock blues band King King, who have brought the Volkshaus down at a few prior festivals. The Promo Blues Night will take place this year on Monday evening, when five bands from the region will take the stage and battle it out for the title of the “Promo Band 2022.” Another double concert evening on Tuesday will present Lachy Doley, Australia’s most celebrated blues soul rock organist, often referred to as the Jimi Hendrix of the Hammond organ, who will be followed by the Memphis combo, Southern Avenue. The final evening of the Blues Festival Basel on Wednesday evening will begin with Thornbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado, the Danish singer, songwriter, and guitarist who infuses his music with rock, soul, jazz, and even world music. Last but not least, the second act of the final festival night will be the legendary Otis Taylor, the socially critical blues musicians and multi-instrumentalist who has been nominated for awards and honored multiple times.
With the themes and artists varying for each of the 5 days, there will be plenty of great blues to entertain the most die-hard fans. Check out our Calendar page for dates and details of the individual concerts.
