Eco Museum Alsace

This wonderful museum recreates the Alsace of the past. Organized as a real village with buildings from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century, you can visit many old Alsatian homes, farmhouses, ateliers, and more. The museum comprises 80 original half-timbered houses, workshops, and buildings that have been moved from various sites and reassembled, complemented by everyday objects, furniture, and tools linked to craft and agricultural activities. You and your kids can learn about numerous old trades, including blacksmithing, barrel making, pottery making, weaving, and wheel righting. It is a living museum with animals and agriculture in a beautiful 97-hectar setting where children are welcome to run, explore, and partake in any of the 20 daily activities.
Visiting this museum in autumn is especially nice as you can purchase many of the fruits and vegetables they grow.

Be sure to grab some bags of apples in the fields or purchase produce in the gift shop on your way out. Or better yet, join them for a fun and tasty weekend in October (this year on October 17 and 18), when the apple takes center stage! Visitors can explore the orchards and the apple exhibition, take part in the pie contest, and discover traditional pressing techniques. Also, exclusively on Sundays, visitors can visit the vineyards and taste Alsatian wines.

The museum is located approximately 30 minutes from Basel; entrance costs € 16.50 for adults, € 14 for students, € 11 for kids ages 4-17, or € 50 for families of four.
Note that in 2026, the Ecomusée d’Alsace is open to the public Fridays-Sundays for the first three weeks in October as well as Tuesday-Sunday during the last two weeks of October; check their opening schedule for other months of the year.
