Escape the Heat in a Museum
To help people escape the heat, a couple of museums in Basel are temporarily offering free admission to some or all visitors because their buildings are air-conditioned to protect the artworks.
- Until at least July 5, the Kunstmuseum Basel is offering free admission to older adults (from age 65) who are particularly vulnerable to the heat. Admission is free to their exhibits in the old and new building, except for the current special exhibition “Helen Frankenthaler.” Also excluded is the building for contemporary art with the Cao Fei exhibition.
- The Museum der Kulturen Basel is offering free admission for everyone until further notice.
Also, the Basel-Stadt Gesundheitsdepartement (health department) on their website has a list of publicly accessible spaces with air conditioning where you can relax and cool off, such as the foyer of Theater Basel, the public libraries, and even a couple of eateries where you can relax without without having to consume anything (https://www.bs.ch/themen/gesundheit/gesundheitsfoerderung/praeventionsangebote/hitze#oeffentlich-zugaengliche-raeumlichkeiten).
