Everyone is invited to float down the Rhein together in an annual tradition called “Rheinschwimmen.” Thousands plunge simultaneously into the water by the Museum Tinguely or anywhere along the permissible swimming lane on the Kleinbasel side of the river and let the current carry them downstream.
The event starts at 18:00, when all boat traffic is temporarily halted for this event. It is highly recommended to wear water shoes and to bring a bag to put your belongings in. Whether you participate or simply come to watch, this is an event worth marking! There will be sponsor stands located along the Rhein where you can pick up snacks, drinks, and small sport-related giveaways. All participants receive a commemorative medal. When the weather is nice, this event can attract over 5,000 participants!
In case of bad weather or high water, the event will be postponed one week, to August 20.
This event is free and no registration is necessary.
