Alfredo Rodriguez & Pedrito Martinez

Grammy-nominated artists Alfredo Rodriguez (piano) and Pedrito Martinez (percussion, drums) first collaborated on the 2012 album “The Invasion Parade.” Since then, they have rarely had the opportunity to perform together as a duo, but at these rare concerts the audience was fascinated by their virtuoso playing. Each artist has a different approach to collaboration: As a protégé of Quincy Jones, Rodriguez was trained in the rigorous classical conservatories of Havana. His fascinating art is influenced by Bach and Stravinsky as well as his Afro-Cuban and jazz roots. Martinez's musical training came directly from the streets of the Cayo Hueso neighborhood in Old Havana, where he grew up. He then performed with artists such as Sting, Paul Simon, and Wynton Marsalis. Together on Duologue they take listeners on a unique and exciting journey.
Martínez grew up in Havana and was already performing in Cuba at age 11. In 1998 he went to Canada with Jane Bunnett's Spirits of Havana. He also made his first recording with the Spirits of Havana in 1996. In 2000 he won the Thelonious Monk Competition, for the first time in the Afro-Latin Jazz hand drum category. He then moved to New York. Martínez is involved as a studio musician on more than 100 albums. He also played with Cassandra Wilson, Joe Lovano, Wynton Marsalis, and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and Sting.
Tickets are CHF 59.50-79.80.
