With its very special charm, the "Ängelimärt" (angel market) in Allschwil is one of the most popular Christmas markets in the Basel region. In the run-up to Christmas, lovingly decorated market stalls with lots of homemade gifts and culinary delicacies adorn the lanes and streets around the village center. Children—and some adults too—can be found dressed in angel costumes on this very special occasion. Visiting the "Ängelimärt" in Allschwil is as much a part of the pre-Christmas period as baking Gutzeli (Christmas cookies).
