Basler Vokalensemble — Nisi Dominus
In a joint project, the Basler Vokalensemble & Voce Basel will be performing works by Schütz, Galuppi, and Palmeri. The program focuses on three different settings of Psalm 127 ("Nisi Dominus"): Heinrich Schütz's double-choral German-language setting ("Where the Lord does not build the house," SWV 473) includes and contrasts excerpts from Baldassare Galuppi's "Nisi Dominus" (BurG II /48). In contrast to Schütz, who was primarily known for his sacred vocal music, Galuppi's work was primarily of central importance for the further development of opera in Italy. The third setting was written by the contemporary Argentine composer Martín Palmeri, whose commissioned work “Nisi Dominus” (on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Carus publishing house) commemorated the success of his best-known choral work, “Misa a Buenos Aires—Misatango.”
