Birslauf
For the 57th time, runners will line up for this popular 10 km run along the river Birs from St. Jakobshalle to the Grün 80 area, through the Reinacher Heide, and back to the starting point. The run was originally conceived by the Laufsportverein Basel (Basel Running Club) to protect our forests, which have been visibly weakened by the hot and dry periods of recent years. By planting new oaks, which are more resistant to prolonged drought, the forest of the future is being redefined. All of the money raised by this run goes to a tree donation campaign.
Changing rooms and shower facilities will be available but may be subject to long queues, so it is best to come dressed and plan to shower at home, if possible. Start numbers will not be sent but can be picked up on the day of the race, starting at 15:00. The runners will depart in assigned blocks, starting at 17:00. Start and finish are behind the St. Jakobhalle.
All are welcome to participate and thanks to generous sponsors, the run is free of charge. Registration and late registration are only possible online and can be made up until shortly before the start of the run (space permitting). The event is free; however, if you register but don’t attend, you will be charged CHF 10 to cover the cost that the sponsor will not cover in the event of a no-show. Check their website for more details and to register.
