Bobsled Through the Center of Fribourg’s Old Town
Have you ever walked through a hilly town and wondered how much fun it would be to toboggan down the street? Well, here is your chance! The city of Fribourg, in the canton of the same name, has a long street—rue de la Samaritaine / rue du Stalden—that runs through it with an impressive slope. For one weekend each winter, they cover it in snow and invite the young-at-heart to sled down it. The idea was conceived by a group of local inhabitants called CAP (comité d'animation de la Place du Petit-St-Jean) who formed a neighborhood association that organizes many events to get people out of their houses and have some fun together. During these three days, both children and adults take their toboggan down an exhilarating run through this most exceptional setting to the lower level of town, where local restauranteurs are waiting to impress you with their culinary skills. The historic buildings that adjoin the toboggan run are remarkable and you will have time to admire them on your way back up to the starting point where you can begin your next bob descent. Be sure to bring your own toboggan (there are no rentals). Wear winter clothes and good, sturdy winter shoes or boots, and the wearing of a helmet is highly recommended. Note that only plastic toboggans will be permitted this year, as the snow covering is not thick enough for the traditional Davos wooden sled with metal runners, which causes some damage to the street. It is ideal to arrive by public transport, but if you come by car, you can find P+R on the map (see their website).
This event is free for everyone.
